At Large Candidate Bob Young refuses to attend Board of Supervisors Candidates Forum on September23

The Charlottesville Area League of Women Voters will be sponsoring candidate forums in Greene County beginning with candidates for the board of supervisors gathering at the William Monroe High School Performing Arts Center on September 23 at 7 pm.

Candidates running for supervisor are: Dale Herring and Bob Young for the At Large seat being vacated by Eddie Deane; Incumbent David Cox and Write-in Candidate Donna Harlow for the Monroe District seat; and Incumbent Davis Lamb and former School Board Chair Michelle Flynn for the Ruckersville seat.

Bob Young will not be attending, by choice.

On September 8 Young announced that he will not participate in the forum “because at least one of the event organizers … is also a political organizer and has ties to other candidates seeking various offices in Greene County.

Sources say Young is referring to Kristine “Kiki” Flaig, a Greene County citizen, wife and mother who volunteered her time to find a location for the forums and to set their times.

The Clerk of Court Candidate Forum is scheduled for September 30 at 7 pm in the William Monroe High School Performing Arts Center.

Candidates are: Incumbent Brenda Compton of Stanardsville; J.B. “Brad” Berry of Quinque; Steve G. Keene of Ruckersville; and Amber L. Knight of Stanardsville.

The forums for sheriff and for school board members will be held on October 7 at 7 pm in the William Monroe High School Performing Arts Center.

Candidates are: Incumbent Steve Smith of Stanardsville; and Brooks Taylor of Ruckersville.

Like Young, Smith is refusing to attend the forum because he objects to the fact that the locations and times were set by Flaig.

Candidates for the Greene County School Board are incumbents Rodney Kibler of Ruckersville and Sharon L. Mack of Barboursville, who are both running unopposed.
